Structured according to the political districts of the First Czechoslovak Republic, the encyclopedia of places in the Bohemian Lands presents data on the official toponymy and administration of every community in the Czech Republic (or the historical lands of Bohemia and Moravia-Silesia), outlining the administrative and linguistic changes they underwent in the transition from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the communist Czechoslovak Republic and providing population figures for the years 1910, 1930, 1938/39, 1949, 1955, 1960 and 1965. A register of place names in German, Czech and Polish is a useful guide for users of this reference work. The encyclopedia was first published in 1983 and has also been used in official contexts.
