International Research Group: "Religious Cultures in Europe in the 19th and 20th Century"
The international research group "Religious Cultures in Europe in the 19th and 20th century" has been researching the relationship between religion and the modern age since October 2009.
Under the program, sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Czech Science Fondation (Grantová agentura), dissertations and research papers evolve, which concentrate on the fields of religious change in the modern age, religion and science, religion and nation/empire, clericalism and anti-clericalism, religion and gender and urban religion.
The studies of the research group aim to fundamentally contribute towards the clarification of the historical, religious science-related, and theological understanding of the relationship between religion and the modern age. Religious cultures and their relationships and connections with secular systems are examined in the time from the end of the 18th century, with a regional focus on Central Europe.
The international research group is situated at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich and the Charles-University in Prague, the Collegium Carolinum acts as a cooperation partner. Professors and lecturers from the disciplines of history, catholic theology, protestant theology, Jewish Studies and religious studies are involved. The program offers colloquia and methodical courses on a regular basis, an annual summer school, a semester abroad in Prague as well as close supervision and support.
