Joint Bavarian-Czech regional exhibition

Since early in 2014 Collegium Carolinum has been involved in an ambitious bilateral project. The Czech Republic and the Free State of Bavaria are presenting a joint regional exhibition from May 2016 to March 2017, located in Prague and Nuremberg, which is accompanied by a number of publications and events.

The period of the reign of Emperor Charles IV is central to the topic, though his reception in later times is also discussed. The Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte is responsible for the exhibition on the Bavarian side of the equation, and the Prague National Gallery takes on the role from the Czech point of view. The Collegium Carolinum was involved in the planning for the event right from the very start. As part of initial preparations, Robert Luft, Ulrike Lunow and Martin Zückert created a preliminary conceptual design for further development by the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte. This conceptual design has also gathered together notes and ideas from the membership of the Collegium Carolinum, whose views were consulted in advance.

In addition to this, a conference in support of preparations for the exhibition took place in Prague in June 2015. It was organised by the Collegium Carolinum together with the Historical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte (House of Bavarian History), along with other partners (see the program and Call for Papers in German or Czech). The conference contributions were pubished as a companion volume to the regional exhibition under the title of "Tschechien und Bayern. Gegenübsterstellungen und Vergleiche vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart" in October 2017, on the occasion of the exhibition opening in Nuremberg.
